Registrations of new vans hit an all-time high last month as the boom in online shopping and home delivery continues. Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showed that 30,440 new light commercial vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes were registered in April.

That was the highest total for the month since records began and an increase of almost 800 percent compared with April 2020. Over the first four months of this year, the SMMT reported that 127,796 new light commercial vehicles have been registered, with 2.5- to 3.5-tonne vans making up 66 percent of those. The overall figure is up by around 80 percent compared with the same period in 2020.

Commenting on the statistics, the SMMT expressed confidence that the light commercial market is returning to pre-pandemic levels. It said this recovery is being driven by “a sustained increase in larger van acquisition caused partly by demand from the delivery sector and partly by other sectors emerging from lockdown.”

David Eszenyi, Ivor Searle’s Commercial Director, said: “It’s very encouraging to see that business confidence is being reflected in their investment in new commercial vehicles as the UK comes to the end of lockdown. We’ve seen a significant uplift in demand for remanufactured engines and gearboxes over the past year and expect this to continue as online shopping increases and the economy recovers.”

As a leading remanufacturer of van engines, Ivor Searle continues to add new major units to its all-makes range. The business has recently added 2.0-litre EcoBlue TDCi diesel engines for the Ford Transit with power outputs of 105 and 130bhp. The engines cover both front and rear-wheel drive models of the UK’s best-selling van, powered by the Euro VI compliant four-cylinder direct injection engine.

By sourcing a remanufactured Transit engine from Ivor Searle, trade customers can achieve savings of up to 40% compared with buying a brand-new engine.

Built to exceed the BS AU257:2002 Code of Practice for remanufacturing engines, Ivor Searle’s product line-up covers around 90% of the UK’s passenger car and LCV parc.  For peace of mind, all Ivor Searle reman engines are covered by a 12-month unlimited mileage parts and labour warranty.

Ivor Searle holds comprehensive stocks to ensure first class customer service and minimum vehicle downtime and provides free next day UK mainland delivery for stock items ordered before 3.30pm.
